Trying to have it both ways on something so important like who is the leader of the free world isn’t leadership.

Maine deserves a Congressman who doesn’t speak out of both sides of his mouth. That’s not Congressman Jared Golden. He has a long history of taking both positions on many issues. That’s because it’s hard to be a liberal Democrat in a Republican district. 

 

Unfortunately for Congressman Golden, we’ve cataloged how he’s flipped and flopped and squirmed and taken both sides on nearly every issue important to Maine’s voters. 

 

The following will be updated so if you see Jared Golden take one position in a desperate attempt to appeal to voters in Maine’s second Congressional district, you can introduce him to the liberal version of himself in Washington and from Maine’s legislature who took the opposite position.

…MEET “WE CAN’T LOSE SIGHT OF THE ONGOING ATTACKS ON OUR DEMOCRACY” JARED GOLDEN:

  • Speaking to the 2022 Maine Democratic Party Convention, Jared Golden said “We can’t lose sight of the ongoing attacks on our democracy, our elections, and the peaceful transfer of power…” The same convention where the platform said, “American Democracy faces an existential threat,” and “Democracy is under attack by enemies, foreign and domestic.”​

  • Jared Golden Voted for Adam Schiff’s “Protecting Our Democracy Act” in 2021. He also cosponsored it in 2023. A press release on the bill from Schiff's office stated: “Donald Trump took a sledgehammer to the foundations of our democracy and left our democratic institutions teetering on the edge.”

  • Jared Golden is Co-Chair of the “Blue Dog Caucus,” whose co-chair, Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez, said “Jared, and I – are rebuilding it (Blue Dog Caucus) into this sort of antifascist rural [group].”

  • After the assassination attempt on President Trump, Golden says: “We can start by dropping hyperbolic threats about the stakes of this election. It should not be misleadingly portrayed as a struggle between democracy or authoritarianism, or a battle against fascists or socialists bent on destroying America. These are dangerous lies.”
     

  • Bangor Daily News OpEd from Golden: “Donald Trump is going to win the election and democracy will be just fine.”

  • Golden’s IRA vote also supported Biden’s massive offshore wind expansion in the Gulf of Maine, which is opposed by Maine fishermen. The IRA is so important to expanding offshore wind in Maine that it's mentioned no less than 7 times in the Mills administration's "Offshore Wind Roadmap." 

  • In response to efforts to expand Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Maine, the Maine Lobster Association said it "remains steadfast in its position that no area of the Gulf of Maine should be industrialized with offshore wind."
